Speed was believed to be a contributing factor in a fatal motorcycle crash that happened on Western Avenue on Tuesday night.
At around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the area of Western Avenue and Knoxville College Drive to investigate a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
The investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling west on Western Avenue at speeds possibly in excess of 100 miles per hour when it collided with the rear of a GMC pickup truck, which had turned onto Western Avenue from 20 First Street prior to the collision.
The motorcycle driver, a 35-year-old man, was transported to the UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
KPD crash reconstruction personnel responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the crash. That investigation remains ongoing.
